All over the Internet

So while trying to finish all of the homework I have due this last week of school, I got it into my mind to do a search for myself.
Chris Gallo Didn't return anything about me, at least not on the first page.

But my aim name, ALLmightySPIFF sure did. Its mildly interesting to see where my footprint on the internet has been. I've got a good 520 results just for me, which I think is pretty cool :)

Stochastic Finite Automata for Musical Style Recognition

Stochastic
Finite Automata for Musical Style Recognition

Chris Gallo

This paper deals with using a predicting form of the non deterministic finite automata to determine the style of music of a given sample. You can skip the paragraphs with funny symbols in them, you likely will not get them anyway.

Creating animated GIF's in Gimp

Its surprisingly simple matter to make animated, which to be honest, rather surprised me.

Essentially all you have to do is gather your collection of jpg's that you want to make into a gif. Then you open the first one. Then for the rest just open as layer (in order of course). After that you simply need to save as gif, make sure its animated, specify some options, and your done!

I remember trying to do this same thing in high school and it was a PAIN to say the least. More proof why Gimp is awesome.

Automata

I am taking a class in college called Automata. It is essentially a very highly theoretical computer science class, however when I tell people that I usually get VERY quizzical glances. So, in an effort to enlighten those of you who do not have to take this class, and so you can stop bugging me about it, AND so I can vent a little, here is a more visual interpretation of what it means to be in the class.

The 777th mile

So my odometer finally hit 777 miles today, a milestone to be sure. So far the car is running great and I have actually just gotten my license plate. Still no word on the MP3 player thingy though, which I am a little frustrated about. I knew getting it was going to be a hassel...sigh, what can you do.

At my current rate I am driving about 38 miles every day...yikes. So I should hit the 7777 mile mark in about 190 days, even more yikes!

I hate Xorg

No, thats not quite right, I DESPISE Xorg, I hate it more than I have hated anything in the long history of my existance. This hate runs deep, deeper than you can fathom. The fury I have for the cesspool of software the is Xorg burns with more ferocity than a THOUSAND suns.

Why? Because Xorg fails, and it fails hard. All I really want to do is have my desktop be composed of two monitors of different resolution. Is this really that hard? Windows can do it with ease. Can Xorg.... if your wondering...its NO, NO IT CAN'!

Doom Car: The beggining

I shall start at the beginning. It was Saturday, and it was perhaps the most beautiful morning in at least a day or so. Which is good because I was about to spend a large sum of money ( for me at least) and I like to do my spending on nice days.

It might be prudent to note at this juncture, that this is the beginning of the Car's story, not actually mine. Although I am telling it, starting at the beginning of my story would take quite a bit longer to tell.

Good bye Doom Van...

It's been a nice run all and all. The doom van was near legendary, being the vehicle of choice in all my high school mischief and some fairly awesome bits of cross country travel.

But alas, the doom van is no more. No more midnight can rig raids...sigh, they will be missed.

An interesting bit about logs

I'm not sure why but going over my logs is a fun thing to do. Maybe its simply because I am very bored, or maybe I just have some weird fascination with what my computer is doing...who knows.

Anyway, on to my point, which I have if you were wondering.

Most of the entries in my referrer* logs are things I would expect. Google, some various social networking sites I have a profile on, that kinda thing.

But this one suprised me.

More on rails.

So in between some classes I managed to learn a little more about the ruby, and its friend rails. I'm still not sold on the whole thing. So far the only really easy thing it has done is made database management a breeze. Which I have to admit it does rather well. With just a few entries consisting of a few lines of code I have a fairly simple database schema up and running with some datas in it.

Another thing I am liking is its friendliness toward testing and deployment. It has a lot of fairly neat testing tools as well. But still, I have no actual CONTENT up yet.
